The Jovial
The Jovial
[attr="class","charactertext"]
Hopepaw wasn't the most diminutive or giant cat in his litter; he was still considered on the larger side. He was the firstborn and considered the oldest of his four siblings. The bachelor possesses a rather feminine build, dapper and lissome with lean muscle beneath his dense, dainty pelage. Starting as a white stripe on his forehead, creating a white mask, the alabaster coloring runs down to his throat and underside, with precious white socks on each paw. On his countenance, he has two black freckle-looking splotches marking his maw, giving him an endearing facade that's oppugning to disregard. Hopepaw's intense yellow gaze is challenging to ignore, as they're filled with the utmost curiosity, expressing just how naive Hopepaw truly is. Overall, a relatively handsome tom for such uncomplicated colors.
Hopepaw is extroverted, sociable, and enjoys good conversation. The tomcat is genuinely curious about everything amidst him. He's always wondering what's next, but he attempts not to get too ahead. Some may say curiosity kills the cat, and it sure does for this tom. However, if he feels curious about something but has second thoughts, he wouldn't dare chase his curiousness. The black and white tom is abnormally observant, believing there aren't any irrelevant actions, not wanting to miss even the most minor things. To satisfy his curiosity, he must take every detail possible, not wanting to miss a single moment in his lifetime. Through observing, Hopepaw forms new connections and ideas; he wouldn't be able to hold back from speaking. He is enthusiastic about his findings and willing to share them with anyone who will listen to him. Hopepaw's enthusiasm gives him the dual benefit of social interaction, giving him sources of new information and experiences. Being a very amiable feline, he is sociable and an excellent communicator. He enjoys both small talk and especially those deep, meaningful conversations making them feel completely natural and unforced. All this adaptability and spontaneity come together to form Hopepaw, who is approachable, engaging, and exciting, with a cooperative and altruistic spirit and friendly, empathetic disposition. He can get along with everyone, and his circles of friends stretch far and wide.
Hopepaw is a lighthearted tom, knowing just how to relax and let loose if he needs to. Being uptight truly isn't this cat's style, as he believes being joyous and free-spirited is the way to go. How can one enjoy life if they're too focused on going through with it rather than living it? He would never be able to be like that. If necessary, he knows just how to spice things up. Despite his cheery persona, Hopepaw is unbelievably competitive, wanting to ensure he has some success. Success is important to the young feline, often thinking about his future. He hopes to become an acceptable warrior or more than that. He wants the best for himself, though, not in a selfish way. Often, Hopepaw struggles to concentrate, appearing unfocused, which can indeed be true. It's hard for Hopepaw to maintain interest as tasks drift toward routine, administrative matters and away from broader concepts. Unfortunately, it isn't easy to keep the feline's interest, which can be irksome. Sure, Hopepaw is independent, but to a fault. He loathes micromanagement and is restrained by heavy-handed rules as he wants to be seen as a highly independent master of his fate, even a possessor of an altruistic wisdom that goes beyond.
While being extraordinarily enthusiastic and such, Hopepaw is highly emotional, expressing his feelings too often. While emotional expression is healthy and natural, with Hopepaw even viewing it as a core part of their identity, it can come out strongly enough to cause problems for him. The youngster can experience emotional bursts that are counter-productive at best when under stress, criticism, or conflict. With emotion comes his overthinking, which can only stress and make him more emotional. He looks for underlying motives in even the simplest things. It's not uncommon for Hopepaw to lose a bit of sleep, asking himself why someone did what they did, what it might mean, and what to do about it. It causes a ton of stress, getting stressed quickly. This overthinking isn't just for his benefit โ Hopepaw is very sensitive and cares deeply about others' feelings. A consequence of his popularity is that others often look to them for guidance and help, which takes time, and it's easy to see why he sometimes gets overwhelmed, especially when he can't say yes to every request. Often, Hopepaw can be instead moody, which comes with his overthinking, stress, and emotion in general. When he gets cranky, he is effortlessly irritated and snappy toward others.

Backstory
OMETIMES PAINFUL THINGS CAN TEACH US LESSONS, THAT WE DIDN'T BELIEVE OR THINK WE NEEDED TO KNOW.
โ BIRTH
A litter of five were born into the Clan, belonging to the emphatic couple of BearClan. One kit was born ill, and he was named Hopekit, hoping he'd thrive in his life. Thankfully, Badgerscar was to his aid, recovering into a robust and healthy kit. Meanwhile, he had a brother who wasn't planned, who was named Brownkit. These two felines are excellent warriors of BearClan, excelling in their particular dexterities. The pair were known for their gentle personalities and how absentminded they could be; some clanmates veered away from them for their scatterbrained tendencies. Their mother is a rather long, lanky white she-cat, while their father is a heavily compacted tom crammed with muscle. The large tom carries brute strength, where Hopekit will get his power, or that's the expectancy. Hopekit had been the pair's first litter. Their father and mother had decided on Hopekit for his survival. Hopekit was often visited by his older easygoing father, who would tell him stories about their patrols and experiences. He would never forget the stories, hoping to experience similar situations when he aged.
โ KITHOOD
His other siblings were much more rambunctious at this age, while he settled back and observed, constantly admiring his surroundings with his inquisitive thoughts in mind. When asking for stories, his parents often ignored Hopekit's prodding for stories, while his father often gave in and sat down every time his son insisted on telling a narrative. His father adored Hopekit, despite his tumultuous persona, bouncing around with the utmost energy. Despite his minimal common sense, he believed Hopekit would grow into a robust and athletic warrior. Hopekit hadn't spent much time around the other kits, preferring to cling to his father's flank when they were in camp, watched by their parents. He loved watching the camp's entrance, awaiting his father's return from his duties as a warrior of BearClan. Hopekit had grown up around his siblings, Hollykit, Harepaw, Hawkpaw, and lastly and strangely-known, Brownkit. Of course, there were other kits; however, some left the nursery sooner than others for their apprenticeship. He was beyond excited for the very day his ceremony arrived, where he'd probably be announced alongside his siblings since they were the same age.
โ APPRENTICESHIP
Finally, the day came when it was time for Hopekit's apprenticeship ceremony. The young tom stepped up, the leader calling upon him that it was his ceremony to become an official apprentice with Riverkit. Hopekit was renamed Hopepaw in honor of his apprenticeship. From there on out, he had lots to learn, experience, and grow. He wasn't the easiest apprentice to handle regarding his challenging mindset. He doesn't seem to concentrate very much on tasks at paw, preferring to disregard his responsibilities. Hopepaw attempted to make his mentor's lessons frustrating, often doing the opposite of what he instructed, continually developing mischief throughout the next few moons. He enjoyed causing chaos, finding youngsters amidst him who wanted troublesome behavior. His mother often scolded him to be more mature and act like he should become a noble warrior of BearClan. It was highly complex for Hopepaw to regard his father's opinions, stressing that he shouldn't have to listen to the older tom. He never strayed away from his way, acquiring his dexterity in accomplishing things however he assumed was best.
Often, he was ignored when he asked to join patrols, considering it was his way of getting out of Camp rather than participating. It was challenging for others to take Hopepaw seriously, known for his notorious childish demeanor. It wasn't pleasant when he'd been rejected from patrols, but he'd occasionally sneak out anyway, sometimes caught by the patrol he questioned and denied. It was his way of establishing a point, and it never worked. Hopepaw was one of the least behaved apprentices; while others flourished, he scrambled to pick up his paws. Some apprentices earned their warrior names before him, and even the newer kits would tease him for being so behind. Perhaps, this would shift his mentality to work harder for his warrior ceremony, and so he did. He focused entirely on earning his warrior name, driving his energy toward his lessons. He was finally beginning to impress his clanmates, heading toward his warrior ceremony at a faster pace with his contemporary work ethic. His hardworking era presumably wouldn't prevail long, as his concentration would get misplaced due to pressure and feeling overwhelmed. Eventually, his mentor gave up, explaining to the leader that he couldn't possibly set Hopepaw straight. Who could?
It's been about a half moon, awaiting his new mentor to be assigned to him. It was bewildering and disappointing, but he'd put himself in this situation. Throughout the moons, he noticed that his brother, Brownpaw, was struggling with approval or...something along those lines. Their parents didn't seem to validate him much at all, which had brought up some empathy in the hyperactive apprentice. It wasn't long before a rockslide struck Brownpaw alongside his mentor, who passed away in the crumbling material of Earth. His brother earned the name Twistedpaw, though, for reasons that Hopepaw disagreed with. It was distasteful and disheartening for his brother. Then again, Hopepaw desired to make the best of his brother's name, deciding it was finally time to form a bond with him. He seemed alone and terrified; it was heartbreaking. Even if he wasn't planned at birth, Twistedpaw was his family, and it's not his fault that his mentor died in the rockslide.
