Goateye
Loner
Loner
Gender: Male
Age: 35 moons
Clan: Loner (former Cougarclan)
Rank: Warrior
Short Description (for rank page, one sentence): Brown and black tabby with a white bib and one amber eye.
Appearance:
Goateye is a large, fluffy tom. His base coat colour is a mocha-brown, with his back and sides decorated with black stripes. On his spine from his neck to his tail is a thick band of black. His bib, muzzle and feet are a cream colour. Goateye has a large scar (not pictured) over his right eye socket. His right eye is permanently closed. His left eye is a rich amber colour. Goateye also has some scarring on his flank, a crook in his tail from when he fell into the crag.
History:
Goatkit knew his parents did not love each other, but that didn't bother him much. He spent most of his kithood playing with his siblings, Sheepkit and Ramkit, and ignoring what the grown cats were mewing about. He always thought their ways were foolish. He was the oldest of the three and, while not quite as large as his brother Ramkit, promised to grow up to be a decently sized tom. Goatkit was known to be aloof, even downright dismissive of his parents and grandparents. In truth, though he did not know it, he was seen as a burden.
As an apprentice this meant that Goatpaw was left mostly to his own devices. He had watched as his grandfather and father fawned over Rampaw but it did not bother him. He was glad to be out of the nursery, out of the watchful gaze of the family. Goatpaw grew ever closer to Sheeppaw. When they had downtime, Rampaw was taken off for extra training. At first they thought he just had a tough mentor, but one night Rampaw told them the full extent of what he was going through. Goatpaw suggested the three of them run away, leave the clan and live as loners. The idea was not well received, and even Goatpaw had to admit it would be hard to leave the clans. So he resolved to just do his best to help his brother survive his apprenticeship. Sometimes he would give Rampaw an extra piece of prey to carry back so it looked like he had caught more than his share, which was likely to get a smidgen of approval from Bisonstorm. Goatpaw also did more of the apprentice chores, finishing them before Rampaw returned from whatever elite training he had to do so he could have some time to rest. All in all, his only worry was making sure his brother was all right.
When they became warriors it seemed as though all of their worries would disappear. They couldn't be told what to do anymore, because they were no longer kits and no longer apprentices. They were warriors, and they had earned their titles. Goateye was so proud to earn his warrior name with his two most beloved friends and siblings, and to finally be released from the insane expectations Bisonstorm had for them.
He was wrong.
When he found out that Sheepfur, his sister, had been arranged to be mated with a male she didn't choose, he was beside himself. He could not believe that his own father and grandfather would treat Sheepfur like prey to be passed around! He and Ramhorn were supposed to find a way to fix it together, but one night Bisonstorm and Goateye were paired up for a hunting patrol and Goateye brought it up. How he did not think it was fair for Sheepfur to have to take a mate she didn't choose and how they should let her decide for herself. Bisonstorm did not yell, or even argue. He simply listened, which was strange, but Goateye believed that Bisonstorm had seen the value in what he was saying.
A few nights later, Bisonstorm invited Goateye for a chat. He was led to the crags where Bisonstorm went on a tirade about how he was the head of the family and how his word was law and told him that if he wanted Sheepfur to mate with every tom in the clan she would do it because he said so. Goateye was shocked and furious. He leaped at Bisonstorm, but the old tom was faster and fiercer than Goateye. They fought hard, but Goateye lost an eye and while he was reeling from that, Bisonstorm shoved him off the cliff into the crags.
Goateye awoke in a strange new place, with a creature he had never seen before. It was bald and walked on two legs. It lived alone in a wooden tower overlooking the woods and often went on long hikes, speaking into a little box that spoke back every now and again. The creature, a twoleg, had nursed him back to health. Goateye's injured eye was removed and bandaged. He lived there for ten moons, not really knowing what had happened. Not really knowing who he was.
Then, one morning, he woke thinking Ramhorn was waking him for a patrol. Rmahorn! His brother! His old life came flashing back to him, including the fight with Bisonstorm. Goateye up and left the twoleg tower that day, and eventually found his way back to the clans. Since then he has been lurking on the outskirts, unsure how to return after so many moons away.
Personality:
- Stubborn-- Goateye believes that he knows best, and that he can achieve anything if he just tries hard enough (even if the first ten tries didn't work, maybe an eleventh will!)
- Bad tempered-- Goateye is easy to taunt and quick to leap into fights. He is the last cat to take on diplomacy missions as he does not have much patience for words. He tries, but often becomes frustrated and resorts to the language that makes the most sense to him: fighting!
- Impulsive-- Along with being stubborn and bad tempered, Goateye is also impulsive. His mentor used to say that the path between a thought and an action for Goateye was a straight line, meaning he rarely thought things through. This has gotten him into a myriad of difficult situations.
+ Kind-- Goateye is a kind soul. He loves very deeply and is surprisingly empathetic for a stubborn, impulsive brute like him. Still, Goateye seems to have a great capacity for kindness. He might rip your fur off, but he would also help make the salve for the wounds later.
+ Resilient-- This is what they call it when being stubborn has a good outcome. Goateye is nothing if not resilient, and any cat can tell you that nothing keeps him down.
+ Dependable-- He is your ride-or-die sort of friend. Goateye will be there for his friends and his littermates no matter what. Call for him and he is there. You can always count on Goateye to lend a paw with this or that, or to just be a warm pelt to lean on during the hard times. He's your tom!
