Name: Duskkit-Duskpaw-Duskfeather-Duskstar
Gender: She-cat
Age: 50 moons (4 years, 2 months)
Clan: Elkclan
Rank: Leader
Appearance:
Duskstar is a pretty tortoiseshell she-cat. Her fur is long and soft and her tail, crooked just at the very end, is exceptionally fluffy giving it a feathered look. Her main colour is a deep dark brown, almost black, with hints of orange all throughout. The fur along her spine is jet black, and the only spot of white on her entire body is one white dot the size of a nickel right in the middle of her chest.
Her eyes are a golden honey colour. Soulful and piercing, a sharp look from her is like being stabbed at by thousands of warriors' claws. Her eyes seem to change colour based on how she's feeling. When she is mad, or dealing with tough situations that require her to be guarded, her eyes are cold, dry and pale in colour. When she is happy or content, her eyes are full bodied, warm, and sparkling with life. Duskstar takes care of her appearance, as she believes that it is important to be set an example of hygiene to the rest of her clan.
History:
Duskkit was born on a hot day in Greenleaf along with her brother, a small brown tabby her parents named Brackenkit. Her mother, Briarbird, was the perfect picture of a good mother. She nursed her kits, told them stories, played with them, punished them when they were mischievous (as kits often are). As kits, Brackenkit was the thinker. Duskkit was the kind of kit that acted first and asked later, subscribing to the idea that asking for forgiveness was easier than asking for permission. She dragged her brother on all sorts of adventures around the camp, even going so far as to try to follow a patrol one day. Luckily for them, or unluckily as Duskkit thought, their father, Deerfur, was leading the patrol. He brought his two naughty kits to Quailstar, who made quite the show about how apprentices did not act so irresponsibly and if they wanted a mentor they would need to show her that they could make good decisions for the good of the clan and not just whatever they felt like doing. Brackenkit did not talk to Duskkit for nearly a quarter moon after that.
As an apprentice, Duskpaw was nothing spectacular. Not like Brackenpaw, who was the best hunter and fighter out of all the apprentices. He received much praise and fawning over for his skill, their father especially bragging about how his son could be the next leader of Elkclan. Why not Duskpaw? She wondered. Sure she was not as good as Brackenpaw in terms of raw talent but she was smart! Her mentor often praised her for her ingenuity. Why couldn't Deerfur see it? Duskpaw would often share tongues with Briarbird and lament about how Brackenpaw was suddenly the favourite kit, but Briarbird assured her that Deerfur was just as proud of Duskpaw. Duskpaw didn't believe it. Then, there was an opportunity to prove herself: her first battle. Deerfur was leading a patrol with Duskpaw and her mentor and they were ambushed by a pair of foxes. Deerfur fought fiercely, and Duskpaw fought pelt-to-pelt with him. They drove off their fox but the second rushed up to them and grabbed Deerfur. Duskpaw launched herself on to the fox's back and bit its ears until it released Deerfur, but by the time they carried him home it was too late: he had died. Duskpaw and Brackenpaw grew closer after the death of their father, and even closer still when their mother died after catching greencough the following winter. They were all the kin they had left.
The warrior ceremony was bittersweet. Duskfeather and Brackentail held a vigil together and gazed into the sky to see if they could find their parents, knowing that they were together again and watching over them. The brother and sister became an inseparable pair and an unstoppable force. They gained a reputation for being expert fighters and hunters and were soon given apprentices of their own. They trained together and in what felt like no time, their apprentices were made warriors as well. But Brackentail had found a mate, and spent more and more time with her. They soon had a litter, and Brackentail spent more of his time hunting and watching his kits grow. Duskfeather, of course, loved her brother's kits as her own, but she quickly realized that being a queen was not in her future. She set her sights on becoming the best warrior she could be. Serving her clan had become her passion.
When their deputy, Gingerspot, died of an infected wound, Duskfeather was surprised to be chosen by Quailstar to replace her. Quailstar was, at that time, one of the oldest leaders of the clan and Duskfeather felt like she had only just become a warrior. Quailstar said she saw a lot of Deerfur in Duskfeather, and had seen how clever and dedicated to the clan she was. Soon Quailstar became weaker, and Duskfeather began to take over more and more leader responsibilities. It won't be long before Quailstar joins Starclan. Duskfeather often wonders if she is ready...
Personality:
Duskfeather is a stubborn, intelligent she-cat. She has strong bonds with her kin and her clan and can be very empathetic when she wants to be, but is better known for her 'tough love' philosophy. She expects nothing but the best from herself, which can be both empowering and a source of great stress. Duskfeather is not at all interested in having her own family of kits, but loves her brother's kits as if they were her own. As a leader Duskfeather is strategic, brusque, and insightful.
